  • Dynamic Uncertainty Calculations Dynamic Uncertainty very much reflects the demand for real-time, live data to analyse and evaluate operational performance to identify anomalies early. This solution acts on fresh data and if, for instance, a flow rate is detected that is outside the optimum range, then the uncertainty estimation goes up. Dynamic Uncertainty allows a user to track information in real-time as well as undertake trend analysis. So, if something is not right, immediate action can be taken. Again, this supports our customers in making sure they are meeting regulatory levels of uncertainty, so limiting flaring and preventing unnecessary fines. This is what is demanded by the digital oilfield where fast, accurate visualisation is expected. Dynamic Uncertainty is a fundamental step up from static monitoring methods involving consultants making site visits and delivering reports weeks later – this is live, real-time monitoring and issues can be identified before they become problems, potentially saving millions of dollars. • Dynamic Uncertainty Implementation The software can be installed as part of the SCADA system by being linked to displays on the Supervisory Computer. The uncertainty calculations themselves are stored in a Dynamic Link Library (DLL) which allows them to be imported into a large variety of environments including SCADA packages such as eXLerate and Ignition SCADA and Citect. The software may also be used as a stand-alone product. Importing the calculations into existing SCADA packages facilitates the use of their existing capabilities to activate alarms, display trends in the historical data and produce and manage periodical production reports.

Metering system upgrade and expansion Background Proserv recently completed the live upgrade of a metering system’s hardware and software for one of the UK’s highest producing fields. The client came to us with a requirement to upgrade the existing system to remove obsolescence issues, as well as expand the system to include additional wells – all while ensuring that no loss of production occurred. No loss of production Loss of production during an operation like this can represent a significant loss of revenue for the end client, as without live installation the wells would have needed to have been shut down numerous times over a 13 week period. A live installation was therefore necessary. We developed a temporary, but fully functioning replica system to allow the cabinet equipment to be changed out with no downtime. The live installation also brought additional benefits. Bed space is limited on the asset, so performing the upgrade and expansion without the need for a planned shutdown provided more flexibility, as the client could schedule us in for the upgrade at a time best suited to them. Chosen for our expertise Proserv has a long history with both the client and the asset. The client felt that our knowledge of the then-current system, along with the level of support that we’d been providing to the obsolete system thus far, gave us the edge. We also provided a number of potential solutions for the end user. We didn’t box them into a standard package, forcing them to take what we wanted to supply. This gave them the flexibility to choose the technologies that they wanted and needed. A key feature of our win was that we were able to integrate the new subsea wells into the existing system. This future proofed their equipment and removed the need for a separate system, which would have inevitably added both cost and complexity. Overcoming challenges The implementation scope consisted of three phases: setup and transfer signals to temporary rack, refit existing cabinets and transfer signals to the new equipment. This might sound simple but in order to get there, we needed to create a 1,400 page Installation and Commissioning Procedure (ICP), which contained 700 pages of associated drawings – no mean feat in of itself!
Multiphase metering system for subsea wells Background The project involves the implementation of a new metering system for a tie back of 8 subsea wells to an existing installation, with the potential capacity for up to 18 wells. This system, integrated with a Pressure Volume Temperature (PVT) model and Virtual Flow Computer, was deployed in one of the largest fields in the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Scope Proserv's solution entailed developing a cyber secure metering system installed on a single Virtual Machine, eliminating the need for physical equipment installation. The system offers remote access capabilities, requiring minimal physical maintenance, which proved advantageous to the client. Solution Proserv's expertise facilitated the creation of a cutting-edge metering system with advanced features such as secure remote access, integration of a PVT model into the supervisory system, and utilization of modern communications protocols like OPC UA. The entire system operates on a Virtual Machine, aligning with the client's cyber security standards and ensuring efficiency. Benefits Technology:
  • Secure remote access ensures convenient and secure system management.
  • Integration of OPC UA interface enhances communication security.
  • Incorporation of a PVT model into the supervisory system improves accuracy.
  • System installation on a Virtual Machine reduces physical footprint and maintenance requirements.
  • Designed in accordance with the client’s cyber security standards, ensuring compliance and data integrity.
  • HSE: Remote testing minimized travel-related risks during COVID-19 restrictions, prioritizing health and safety.: Cost: Remote access capabilities reduce offshore mobilization needs for maintenance, resulting in cost savings for the client.
Asset extension metering control system Background Our client required a new metering control system on board a floating storage unit (FSU). The FSU is undergoing a major overhaul to extend the life of the asset to 2040. They needed a new system that would help to bring the asset up to modern standards and help to reduce maintenance and manual intervention. Scope Proserv, with a track record of delivering over 200 metering control systems to the industry, was chosen for its proven quality and reliability. Flexibility was crucial as the project scope expanded to include an additional flow computer. Despite challenges, modifications were efficiently managed remotely, avoiding delays and additional costs associated with equipment relocation. Solution Part of the system installation and commissioning was successfully executed during the COVID-19 pandemic, underscoring Proserv's commitment to client satisfaction and project continuity. The smooth execution of factory acceptance testing in Norway further strengthened the client relationship, positioning Proserv as a dependable alternative to OEMs for metering control systems. Benefits Unique features such as integrated flow computer calculation verification and standard features like secure remote access and automatic control of sampling enhance system efficiency, accuracy, and reliability. These advancements minimize manual intervention, reduce maintenance costs, and improve overall operational performance.
